RECYCLING MARACAS
Students will discover how to create sounds with a work of art they create themselves.

What You Need:

  • 2 8 oz (236 mL) water bottles
  • 2 toilet paper rolls
  • Electrical tape (colorful, if possible)
  • Filling For your maracas.
  • Any of the following: Sand, salt, pebbles, birdseed, rice, beans, small beads, large beads, dried pasta, rice, dried peas or beans, small washers, paper clips, small erasers.

Procedure:

  1. First take your clean and dried 8 oz water bottle and fill with your chosen contents. Close it up with the cap and then listen to the sound.
  2. Than you have to tightened the cap on your two water bottles.
  3. The next step is to create the handle. Take your two toilet paper rolls and make a straight cut from one end to the other. Tighten the roll in on itself to about the size of a 3/4 inch dowel and then apply your electrical tape. Start wrapping the tape around the bottom part of the rattle on the bottle and move down onto the new handle. Wrap slowly, covering all the cardboard of the toilet paper roll and you will have created a rather sturdy handle for your new instrument.
Activity:Identify numbers and counting
We are going to have number flashcards like the one that appear on the bottom. Than we are going to grab recycling caps or any other material (blocks, beans) and start putting the correct amount on each number. Remember to first say the name of the number and than count.

This activity objective is to use fine motor skills, creative art and colors. We are going to use a white crayon to draw the letters on white paper we can draw 5 letters on one paper. Use water colors and have the child paint on the paper and find the magic letters. Once they finish is important we repeat the name of the letter and say something that starts with that letter.

We are going to use recycle caps for this activity. We are creating a puzzle for the child. The first thing we do is we are going to do is the alphabet template on a color paper, cardboard or white paper. After we do this we use a marker to put the letters on the caps. If you don't have any caps we can use colored circles (or draw the circles in a paper have the child colored them and put the letter in it). Have them puzzle the letters.
THE LETTERS ARE CAPITAL ON THE CAP AND CAPITAL ON THE PAPER, DON'T USE CAPITAL AND SMALL.

Sensory Activity: Outdoor play dough invitation
This play idea is a great way for kids to get creative, use their imagination and play with what’s available. Arranging the materials so they’re all visible helps children use their imagination and come up with creative ideas.
