Nursery Earth Day Weekly Plan April 20th - 24th, 2020


Dear Parents,
Welcome to a new week! This week we encourage you to show your child the importance of the Earth and how we need to take care of it. Show safety rules in the environment and the importance of reduce, reuse and recycle. Remember the importance of homeschooling your child is not for tests but for life. Have a great week! MONDAY
Circle Time: We are going to sing some of our favourite nursery rhymes and fast & slow action dance. 




FAST AND SLOW ACTION DANCE: 


Activity: Rock Painting. 
First let's go outside and look for rocks in the garden. Put them inside a bag or basket, wash and dry them. After this you can give your child paint, water colors or markers. You can also draw on them using a black marker and then let them paint it.

Sensory Activity: Gross Motor Jumping Lines.
Instructions: First we need tape or colored paper and paste different lines on the floor. This lines need to have different distance between them. Have your child jump in between them. They will have to jump both feet of the ground. You can also do jumping with one foot or as a frog, a kangaroo and different movements. 

TUESDAY
Circle Time: We are going to sing some of our favourite nursery rhymes and use our fine motor skills to cut a banana. 



CUTTING A BANANA
Instructions: Grab a banana and a kids knife ( it can be plastic or metal). Than have the child peel a banana and grab the knife and cut it in small pieces. After this hand them a fork and have them eat it by themselves. This exercise helps them to start being independent and cutting exercise. 

Activity: Finger painting Earth Art craft.
For this activity you can get very creative and messy. You can use white paper, color paper , cereal box or any card board. You can also use paper towel or napkins.

WEDNESDAY
Circle Time: Story telling " EARTH DAY"  


Activity: Planting Seeds!

What you will need:1. recycling pots
2. Soil
3. Seeds (beans, sunflower)
4. shovels or something to scoop soil
5. water (spray bottle optional)

PROCEDURE:
1. We are going to grab our recycling pot.
2. Place the soil in some sort of bin. Have the children scoop the soil their peat pot until it's almost to the top. You can also count the scoops out loud.
3. Place the seeds in the palm of the children's hands and they use the fingers from the other hand to pinch the seeds and placed them in the soil. They then gently push some soil on top of the seeds, tucking them in like a blanket.
4. Give them a spray bottle or a bucket with water, so they can mist the soil like gentle rain.
5. So after the seeds are planted, take them to the window or outside for the seeds to have light.
*Explain the importance of watering the plant everyday for it to grow.

THIS ARE DIFFERENT POTS YOU CAN MAKE USING RECYCLING MATERIALS:

 Sensory Activity: Building with sticks and play dough. 
We are going to use sticks such as ( tooth picks, skewers or outside sticks). This is a free play activity. Have your child use their imagination and build using this 2 elements. 

THURSDAY
Circle Time: We are going to sing some of our favourite nursery rhymes and using instruments for fast and slow  beat. 


FAST AND SLOW BEAT 
We are going to use instruments that we have at home or any material you have at home (a spoon and a pan). With this have the child first repeat a beat a fast one and then a slow one. You can then play by saying fast and slow and have them do the beat. 

Activity: Make a sun!
We are going grab a yellow construction paper (or you can also grab a white paper and color it yellow or a cardboard). Than make a circle in the middle (you can use a plate as a template) . Give the child a scissor and have him cut in straight lines until the circle line. 







Sensory Activity: Discovery Bottles
Go outside and grab different nature materials (leafs, flowers, rocks, sticks). Put them inside the bottle. You can also add other materials, such as water, soil, rice). Have fun and enjoy!



THURSDAY
Circle Time: We are going to do some Yoga in the Garden. 


Activity: Ceiling painting. 
Have some paper paste under the table and give the child markers or crayons for them to use. You can also put this paper in the wall for them to paint. 

Sensory Activity: Scooping blocks water play. 
Grab a bin and put water in it. Then put the blocks inside and give your child a strainer and have them scoop them out to another bin.
